Chandra has been a specialized oncology nurse for 12 years in the out patient palliative clinic at the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre after working for 17 years in a variety of emergency departments in the GTA.

Chandra chose de Souza to advance her knowledge in cancer care. She has an amazing team who work to manage palliative patients in living with their cancer, managing symptoms and when necessary, planning for end of life. Liaising with community partners is an integral part of her every day role in ensuring the patients are well looked after at home. Her focus with her designation was management of the complex patient and to develop strategies for properly discharging the palliative patient from hospital back to the community.

Chandra encourages any nurse looking to expand their knowledge in their chosen field to consider de Souza. Knowledge is power, and with that knowledge it helps us to empower our patients in caring for themselves. Chandra wants to thank Southlake Health for facilitating her continuing education and to her palliative team at the cancer centre for all of their support while pursuing her de Souza designation.
