The de Souza APN Designation is ideal for RNs, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Educators who have a Master’s degree and certification in oncology, hospice palliative care or pediatric oncology.
You may work in:
- Regional Cancer Centres
- General Hospitals
- Public Health/Community Agencies
To receive this Designation, you must:
- Hold a Master’s Degree or higher
- Be certified in oncology or hospice palliative care by the Canadian Nursing Association (CNA), the Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON) or the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) in the USA
- Obtain 4.0 credits by completing at least one course from each of the four domains of practice
- Pass the Foundations in Oncology Nursing Practice (FONP) course or Cancer Care Basics (CANB) course or the Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy (PSCB) course
- Passed all de Souza courses (up to two course reattempts allowed)
- Complete a four week or 150 hour clinical fellowship, plus a research project, both pre-approved by de Souza Institute
- Be registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses in your province or territory
